The first air-conditioned city buses in Rio de Janeiro are Caio buses

2014-07-14 In February 2014, The Municipal Transport Secretary, Sr. Carlos Roberto Ozório, drafted an order for the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Mayor, Eduardo Paes, that all city buses forming the municipal fleet will be fitted with air-conditioning. The plan is that all vehicles will have this equipment in 2016.

One of the main Rio de Janeiro bus operators, Viação Pavunense, bought the first air-conditioned city buses after the decree. Fifty Apache VIP buses were acquired to update their bus fleet which run on the Consórcio Internorte routes. The new vehicles are fitted with options that provide more comfort to passengers and driver, mainly due to the high temperatures in the city.

The 50 buses can carry 43 seated and 39 standing passengers and one wheelchair passenger. They are equipped with an elevator to help with accessibility; air conditioning and glued side windows, improving the thermal situation inside the bus; passenger seats with cushioning, providing better journey comfort. They also come with a ventilation fan and a hydraulic driver seat with lateral movement and adjustable height seatbelt, to provide better drivability.
