Caio Induscar ends 2014 as market leader in the manufacture of urban buses
2014-12-22
Caio Induscar has ended 2014 as the market leader in the production of buses for use in urban environments, a market that, according to FABUS, saw a drop of 15% in the manufacture of buses in relation to 2013, with the two semesters registering similar figures.
There have been a number of reasons for the fall in production, most importantly: the stagnation of the economy; uncertainty in the market through until the elections; a ticket pricing lag in a number of the country’s cities; attacks on buses that discouraged businesspersons from making investments in the sector; and a delay in the implementation of the Finame rates.
The domestic market was largely responsible for the demand in 2014, with 87% of production proportionally going to this area through until November. As for bus manufacture in 2015, it is hoped that the market offers the same levels of figures as it did in 2014.
Tendencies for 2015 suggest an increase in articulated vehicles, and the application of new technologies in the vehicles.
The company is continually investing in the development of products and processes and, in 2014, it redesigned the ‘Apache VIP’, its best selling urban bus. The new model was very well accepted by the market, which is evidenced by the fact that 2,000 vehicles were sold within three months of the model being launched.
It is expected that the Apache VIP will remain Caio Induscar’s best-selling urban vehicle, whilst sales of the BRT models will intensify and its activity in the freight transport sector will increase with sales of the Solar model.
Already this year, the São Paulo-state based bus manufacturer has invested R$30 million (US$ 11.2 million) in a factory in Barra Bonita and this new unit is expected to start operations during the first quarter of the year.
For Caio Induscar, the manufacture of buses that bring together beauty, comfort, safety, power and modernity is essential, thereby serving the market and the needs of its clients. Contributing to the constant improvement of public transport is part of our mission.
