Renewal of Chilean fleet will count with 355 Caio bus frames

2020-06-08 Caio Induscar, in partnership with Scania, started in May the delivery of 355 new buses for the transport system of the city of Santiago, the Chilean capital. They will operate in the urban system ‘Red Metropolitana de Movilidad’ and are part of the fleet renewal of company Express Uno.

The purchased vehicles were the Mondego model, rear engine, manufactured by Caio, especially for the urban segment of the foreign market. Out of the 355 units, 135 are articulated, framed over chassis Scania K320 UA 6x2/2, with technology Euro 6, and 220 are standard, over chassis Scania k280 UB 4x2.

Caio’s Commercial Officer, Mr. Paulo Ruas, emphasizes that the brand is traditionally renowned in the Chilean market. “Our products stand out due to their resistance, innovation, and technology, aiming at meeting the needs of customers and passengers, with quality and excellence”, he comments.

The vehicles are shipped from Botucatu, where the manufacturing plant of Caio is located, in the countryside region of the State of São Paulo, towards Santiago, in a journey of approximately 10 to 15 days of duration.

One of the curiosities is that during the journey the buses cross the Andes, Chilean post card and one of the world’s most famous mountain range, with approximately 8 kilometers of length.

About Mondego

Out of the 355 purchased units, 220 have 12,500 mm of length. The 135 articulated vehicles have 18,600 mm of length. All vehicles comply with the rules in force and with the optimized capacity of passengers.

All buses are 100% accessible, equipped with mobile ramps and seats to individuals with disabilities (“PcD”), reduced mobility, and seniors.

Caio’s Industrial Officer, Mr. Maurício Lourenço da Cunha, stresses that the models sent to Chile counted on several technological resources. “The buses have a multiplex system, which allows the driver to have full control of the bus features and supports the identification of operating and electrical faults; they count on parking sensors in the front and rear; four electronic routes, LED, with update via Wi-fi; preparation for GPS and Wi-fi; USB sockets for smartphones and other electronic devices; fleet management; camera monitoring and speakers for the internal audio system”, affirms the officer.

Valuing the comfort and the amenities to all, the buses have air conditioning, semi-stuffed injected seats to passengers, and stop request without thread.

The cabin is enclosed in glass, default in the country, allows a security barrier to the driver, isolating him or her of passengers. The pneumatic seat with high back and height adjustment from a button on a panel, offers ideal ergonomics and comfort to the driver.

Aiming the greater safety of all, the vehicles are also equipped with bellows doors, pneumatic action, anti-crushing system, and original chassis blockers, which prevent the unexpected opening during the operation.
